Andy Chen is a product of the community and a dynamic symbol of public service and leadership rooted in the interest of the people, by the people, and for the people. Andy is an immigrant who emigrated to Queens, New York at the age of 13, growing up in a working-class family and is a proud product of New York City’s public-school systems and CUNY.

After years of managing his family business, he was driven by the American Dream to start his own business in the healthcare industry. Andy knows firsthand that local mom and pop shops are the backbone and foundation of local economies, and he also knows the challenges that small business owners face, especially when it comes to language accessibility and a post-pandemic economy.
2.Community Health
Andy’s commitment to public service began as an advocate for public health as he witnessed widening gaps between the community and the healthcare systems that failed to address the needs of language accessibility, culturally responsive care, and equitable public health. He led a community driven response by organizing patient's rights forums, public health workshops, and healthcare interpretation services.
3.Public Safety
Andy went on to serve as an NYPD auxiliary police officer for seven years and was appointed to the Asian Advisory Council of the Queens District Attorney in 2019 to fight for accountable, transparent, and common-sense solutions to public safety because he believes that every New Yorker deserves a secure quality of life.

Andy believes in community-based solutions that ensure every New Yorker has the resources, access, and opportunities to live a dignified life. He has been a recipient of social services and understands the life affirming care that local nonprofits can provide. He has served as the Executive Director of Asian American Community Empowerment and the Coalition for Asian American Civil Rights. He is committed to fight in Albany to ensure that nonprofits have access to investments and resources to fully serve our communities.

He is daring to lead the fight against the affordability and housing crisis that has affected tenants and homeowners alike, tackle overcrowding in public schools and expand access to high quality education, enshrine quality public health across all communities, fight for accountable criminal justice and public safety measures, and create sanctuaries for older adults to age in place and fulfillment.
